A guest review from my brother Paul, who lives in Halifax, Nova Scotia:

For her birthday this year, I gifted my wife a bottle of Laphroaig 18yr old. That was on April 11th. FINALLY, on April 20th she decided to crack the cork and pour us each a wee dram…it was what seemed at the time an interminable wait…but a wait that was well worth it.
The Laphroaig 18 might very well be one of the best drams I have ever had. It has all the characteristics of other Laphroaigs: the peat, the salt, the sweetness; but the 18 is a different animal altogether. The nose has a beautiful sweet toffee smell along with a briny saltiness. The colour is of a golden hue.
The taste, well, it’s simply heaven. It starts with a peaty smokiness that quickly fades to a nice oaky nuttiness with the perfect amount of saltiness which reminds me of a wonderfully prepared meal by a top chef on his/her game; enough salt to let you know it’s there but not too much to overpower everything else.
The finish is incredibly smooth and long lasting. The taste lingered in my mouth for what seemed like an hour, even after following it up with a wee dram of Bruichladdich Classic (another fine whisky), I could still taste the Laphroaig 18. The best word to describe this dram would be beautiful!


Sounds like a Fwoooohhhh! and whisky I must try on my next visit to Halifax!
